As we approach the winter season here is Michigan we should prepare a bit for the cold weather climate. Put away the golf clubs and bring out the snow mobiles, perhaps. More importantly make sure everything is functional and ready to go for the long cold spell we are about to endure.

Some help tips for the upcoming fall/winter.

  • Auto Insurance:

    • Winter Driving Coverage: Ensure your auto insurance policy has adequate coverage for accidents caused by slippery roads, ice, and snow.

    • Comprehensive and Collision Coverage: Consider maintaining or adding these coverages to protect your vehicle from weather-related damages such as hail, falling branches, or collisions.

    • Roadside Assistance: Winter conditions can lead to vehicle breakdowns. Check if your policy includes roadside assistance or consider adding it.

    • Emergency Kit: Keep an emergency kit in your car with blankets, a flashlight, food, and other essentials. Some insurers may offer discounts if you demonstrate preparedness.

  • Homeowners Insurance:

    • Winter-Related Damage: Review your policy to ensure it covers damages related to ice dams, frozen pipes, roof collapses from snow, and wind damage.

    • Preventative Maintenance: Document any winterizing steps you take (e.g., insulating pipes, cleaning gutters) to help if you need to file a claim. Furnace maintenance is a must!!!!

    • Flood Insurance: Michigan can experience heavy rain and melting snow leading to flooding. Standard homeowners insurance usually doesn't cover flood damage, so consider a separate flood insurance policy.

  • Health Insurance:

    • Seasonal Illnesses: Make sure your health insurance plan is up to date.

    • Emergency Care: Understand what your plan covers in case of winter-related injuries such as slips and falls or hypothermia. Ask us how we can help with such situations!

  • Life and Disability Insurance:

    • Review Beneficiaries and Coverage: Winter can increase risks of accidents; review your policies to ensure adequate coverage and that beneficiaries are up to date. If you have and adequate amount of coverage with either of these plans, we can definitely show you how to solve that problem.
